ATP Lineworker Rigging Practices Practice Exam

The responsibility for verifying competency and training for rigging tasks rests with the employer and supervisor. They establish the training program, deliver instruction on safe rigging practices, and confirm that workers can apply the knowledge in real lifting situations. Before someone performs rigging, they should demonstrate the required skills—inspecting gear, selecting the right equipment, understanding load and capacity, using proper rigging techniques, and following signaling procedures—and this demonstration needs to be documented. Ongoing supervision and refreshers help keep competencies up to date as gear, procedures, or conditions change.

The safety committee provides guidance for safety programs but doesn’t certify individual workers’ qualifications. The crane operator handles crane operation and lift coordination, not the overarching verification of each crew member’s rigging competency. The employee participates in training and follows procedures, but the formal verification of competency is the employer and supervisor’s duty.
